Am I Eligible for Medicare?

In most cases, you are eligible for Medicare if you are 65 years old and a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, and you or your spouse worked for at least 10-years with Medicare being your insurance provider. You can also in some cases qualify if you are younger than 65 with a disability or with ending stages of serious kidney disease/failure needing dialysis or transplant.

Receive Part A at 65 years old with no premiums if:

  • You receive retirement benefits from Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board.
  • You are eligible for Social Security benefits but have not filed for them yet.
  • You or your spouse had Medicare-covered government employment.

Receive Part A if you are younger than 65 with no premiums if:

  • You receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
  • Received disability benefits for 24 months.
  • You are in need of kidney dialysis/transplant.
